Roses So Red

By Josh Howard

Roses are red
Violets are blue
All I do
I do for you
When the day finally comes
And my body is found
When I am put in the box
Deep underground
This day I will not mourn
I will consider the loss naught
Unless it hurts you
Or finds your breath caught
And the only thing I wish for
All I’d like to see done
Is for you to find joy
For the whole race you run.
Even as they lower the casket
Even as the dirt is shoveled in
And all the mourners speak
Of my life from beginning to end
I will still be striving
To bring your life some joy
Hoping I can produce
Something for you to enjoy.
Hoping my now earthen body
Can create something beautiful for you
Perhaps roses so red
Or Violets so blue
